Broken Paper of Me

I used to think my life was supposed to be a smooth, pristine sheet of heavy-gsm paper, the kind diplomats sign treaties on or artists use for gallery prints.

Instead, it feels like I've been passed through an industrial shredder, soaked in water, and haphazardly pressed back together. If you hold me up to the light, you can see the uneven textures, the mismatched seams, and the faint outlines of old ink that never fully washed out. I'm a piece of handmade, recycled paper. Slightly rough around the edges, definitely imperfect, and undeniably fragile in certain spots.

And naturally, the thought pops up: who on earth would want to accept a sheet as broken as this?

Most people out there are looking for pristine stationery to write their grand, polished stories on. They want clean surfaces, sharp corners, and predictable finishes. But when you offer them a piece of paper that's already been torn down and remade, they hesitate. They're afraid their pen will snag on the rough fibers, or that the ink will bleed through the old scars.

So I stopped looking for someone with a perfect canvas.

Honestly, I just realized that I'm looking for someone with the exact same kind of paper. 🤣

Someone whose own sheet has been crumpled, shredded, and recycled a time or two. Someone who looks at my uneven edges and doesn't see damage, they just see character. I want to meet the person who understands that two pieces of textured, recycled paper actually bind together far better than two glossy pages that just slide off each other.

If our pages are both a little torn and reassembled, at least we won't have to pretend to be flawless. We can just sit side by side, rough surfaces and all, and start writing a brand-new chapter together.
